Our 3-Step Guide to Custom Sublimation Printing

Custom sublimation printing can take your group or event’s shirts to the next level.

Looking for more than a basic screen print or embroidered logo? Our custom sublimation shirts are the way to go.

With custom sublimation printing, there are zero boundaries; it’s an all-over print technique that lets your design shine across the entirety of the shirt. Whether you are looking to create a custom Hawaiian button-down shirt, a custom racing shirt, or a basic tee or tank with all-over-print, we can help you transform your ideas into full-color reality.

So you want to create custom sublimation shirts…Where do you even begin? This process can seem daunting, especially if you’re not a professional designer. Not to worry — we are here to help! Use our step-by-step guide, and we’ll walk you through the process of creating one-of-a-kind shirts you’ll love.

Step 1. Check Your Timeline

step by step guide for custom sublimation printing date and time stepThe first thing you need to do is figure out if you’ve got the time. Since this printing process is a bit more in-depth than a quick screen print, typical production time is 20-25 working days, plus an additional 1-5 working days to ship.

Timeline Tip: If you absolutely need these custom printed shirts by a certain date, take a look at your calendar and identify the latest possible week day you can receive these shirts. Please note that delivery dates do not include weekend days. From there, work backwards (counting working days only) to see if you have enough days for production and shipping.  You’ll also want to add a few extra days if you’re going to need design help (which we cover later on).

There are rush options available, however, which can speed up the process to 10-15 working days, and we can always expedite ship. Contact us today if you think you’ll need your custom sublimation shirts rushed, and we’ll get back to you ASAP with options and a quote.

If it seems like you just can’t pull off getting custom sublimated shirts this time around, don’t stress: a colorful digital print or screen print might work better for your timeline and budget and can be ready in just a few days! Step 2. Get A Print-Ready Design

Is your custom design all ready to go? If so, send it over to us so we can make sure it is print-ready and in the right format. We’ll then send you a final digital layout which you will need to approve before we send the shirts to the printers.

If you don’t have a design, or you need some help polishing your artwork, we can help! Our team of design experts will work with you to create a custom sublimation shirt that you’ll adore. Check out more details about our design services here.

Pro-tip for submitting your own design: Please send us your artwork in vector format. We are able to vector your artwork for a fee if you don’t have the working files, but it’ll save you a little extra time and money if you do.

Pro-tip for getting design help: Design help can get expensive when it requires many hours, too many elements and multiple revisions. To avoid this, figure out how many hours of design help your budget can afford, and start getting your ideas in order.

The design process can be made easier, faster, and cheaper by providing our designer with specific details and mandatory elements you’d like in your design. Think: color scheme, logos (and their placement and size), artistic elements, etc. Are you looking for a repetitive design (like a Hawaiian pattern has)? The more specific you can make your ideas, the easier they will translate into the design.

Another Pro-Tip: Remember, less is more. Give your elements and logos on the shirt room to breathe. It’s tempting to want to throw in a million knick-knacks, but the best shirts are always the ones with easy-to-see visuals and simplicity at the core.

Keep in mind that getting design help may also add a couple extra days to the turnaround time, since there will most likely be a round or two of revisions before you give your stamp of approval.

3. Get a Quote

So you’ve got the time and you have your design (or a plan to get one). Now, it’s time to get a quote!

Click on your ideal style(s) of shirts in the showroom above, click “Get a Quote,” and tell us how many shirts you’d like, and your ideal the day you would like to receive the shirts. We’ll then contact you with accurate details like pricing, including any applicable fees, as well as shipping information if you provide your zip code (so please do!).

If the details look good to you, you will be asked to approve the sales order details before we send over a payment link. We make sure you know exactly what you’re getting and we will never begin printing without your approval.

Full payment is typically required for custom sublimation printing projects because of the time and talents it takes to create these. Ethix does offer discounts, including 10% off your first order, or by waiving the artwork set-up fee on 100 shirts or more.

Ethix wants you to have all the information you need so you can turn your custom ideas into custom prints! Quotes are always free, so go right ahead!
