We have some news to share, and this time it's not about promo! But it deeply reflects what drives us: meaningful jobs, sustainable practices, and economic justice.
Last week, we were honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Capeltic Coffee at Santa Clara University's Cadence Café, located inside Lucas Hall. This launch marks a historic milestone as the first location in the United States to serve Capeltic Nuestro Café. Capeltic is a coffee brand produced by Yomol A'tel, an Indigenous Tseltal cooperative from Chiapas, Mexico. Yomol A'tel's mission is to create dignified work and sustainable value chains with Indigenous communities and vulnerable groups, producing high-quality coffee while supporting responsible consumption and a fairer economy.
Through student immersion trips to Chiapas over the past few years, students from Santa Clara University have had the opportunity to meet the producers, learn about solidarity economies, and taste Capeltic coffee at its source. These experiences helped inspire the vision behind this launch.
This collaboration was made possible through advocacy with the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance (CEPA), a partnership between the Ignatian Solidarity Network, Ethix Merch, and institutions committed to aligning their purchases with their values. At Santa Clara University, the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education and Bon Appétit Management Company helped bring that vision to life, showing what's possible when communities come together around shared purpose.
So, how are we involved in this coffee venture? Ethix Merch is the sole US distributor for the coffee. We help import it, distribute it, and share the story to help grow Capeltic's presence here at Catholic Universities and parishes, local businesses, and anywhere that values high-quality, ethically sourced coffee.
"At Ethix Merch, we believe every purchase is a chance to make a difference. Capeltic Coffee is more than just exceptional coffee-it is a celebration of culture, community, and sustainable livelihoods. We are proud to help share this story and bring ethically sourced, Indigenous-owned coffee to campuses, businesses and communities that want to get serious about aligning their purchasing with their values."
- Daniel Cardozo, CEO, Ethix Merch
We are proud to support this milestone for Capeltic, for Santa Clara, and for everyone working to make ethical consumption a reality on campuses across the country.
If your university café, restaurant, or coffee shop is looking to serve ethically sourced coffee, we would be thrilled to help you navigate that process because we know that every cup tells a story of connection, care, and community.
You can also purchase the coffee directly from the Ignatian Solidarity Network online store.
