We were recently approached by Fawn, the president of the Photography Club at PITT, who was looking for a merchandise company that shared her sense of social responsibly and labor consciousness. The university club was in need of custom Alta Gracia T-shirts for members this semester.
It is so wonderful to get a photo like this of a few of our satisfied customers wearing the products we made for them. Don’t they look dashing?
Choosing Alta Gracia Over the Others
Fawn: “While going to the local t-shirt printing store would have been the most convenient, easiest, and cheapest way to fulfill this responsibility, they only had Gildan shirts in stock and refused to print on anything other than Gildan. [Read here about “Reasons to avoid Gildan”] Around the same time I was deciding what kind of shirts to get, a movement had started on campus started by AIDPitt (Americans for Informed Democracy at Pitt) to try to get the University to move from the FLA (Fair Labor Association) to the WRC (Worker Rights Consortium) in terms of apparel sold at the University. An Alta Gracia [“AG”] campaign started that had approximately 40 student organizations on board, with Pitt Photo Club being among them. This is what moved me to buy AG shirts.”

Alta Gracia has consistently built momentum since their start in 2010. We’ve noticed they are the most sought-after brand when contacted by colleges across the country. While the University of Pittsburgh is not currently offering licensed AG apparel- the right amount of support and pressure could see the university joining the ranks of UDub (University of Washington), Georgetown, and Mizzou (MU).
Fawn: “Although our student group is about photography and not about where our apparel comes from, as president I saw an opportunity to provide students with this fair wage apparel and information on why it’s important to care about where our clothes come from. Our members can now feel good every time that they wear their club shirt, knowing that it was Union made.”
